CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Online Early Elementary (Grades K-2)
ISL provides a well-rounded online language program for those children in grades K-2 that are either starting to learn a foreign language or would like to continue adding to their knowledge. Apart from the language, children will learn some culture, and traditions where the language is spoken. During this online program, students will be introduced to different topics according to the age and level of the students. Topics rotate each session; therefore, students who register for later sessions will learn something different each time.
Class sizes are small and taught by native speakers who are experienced teachers of the language and culture, engaging, fun and motivating. Instructors use every moment as an opportunity to motivate students to use and practice their speaking skills. During each program we introduce a series of games and activities that develop the skills needed to learn a second language in a consistent and sequential manner.
Online Late Elementary (Grades 3-6)

Topics rotate each session; therefore, students who register for later sessions will learn something different each time.

MS/HS Spanish 1/2/3
These classes are for those students currently taking Spanish 1, 2 or 3. The program will follow the Montgomery County Spanish curriculum, focusing on preparing and supporting students weekly by reviewing and understanding the concepts learned in class and practicing them in conversation. Students from any county can join this class.
MS/HS French 1/2/3
These classes are for those students currently taking French 1, 2 or 3. The program will follow the Montgomery County French curriculum, focusing on preparing and supporting students weekly by reviewing and understanding the concepts learned in class and practicing them in conversation. Students from any county can join this class.
CLASS LEVELS
BEGINNER —For students with no or little language experience. Students will begin learning basic vocabulary and simple sentences to express personal information, where they live and people they know. Students will understand familiar words and basic phrases concerning themselves, their family and immediate concrete surroundings when others speak slowly and clearly.
HIGH BEGINNER — Students will begin learning phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms their family and other people, living conditions and their school environment. Students will understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, school). They will catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements.
INTERMEDIATE — Students will be able to connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events, dreams and hopes; to give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans’ and to narrate a story. Students will also understand the main points of speech on familiar matters in school, leisure, etc.
ADVANCED — Students will be able to use the language in a more complex way, using the past tense and future tense with ease
