Class Descriptions

Children classes are divided by ages. Usually the groups are:

  • 5-8 year olds
  • 9-12 year olds

Each group has their own level depending on the children’s experience with the language:

BEGINNER – For students with no or little language experience. Students will begin learning basic vocabulary and simple sentences to express personal information, where they live and people they know. Students will understand familiar words and basic phrases concerning themselves, their family and immediate concrete surroundings when others speak slowly and clearly.

HIGH BEGINNER –  For students who have had 6 months – 1 year of language instruction. Students will begin learning phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms their family and other people, living conditions and their school environment. Students will understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, school). They will catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements.

INTERMEDIATE – For students who have had more than 2 years of language instruction. Students will be able to connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events, dreams and hopes; to give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans’ and to narrate a story. Students will also understand understand the main points speech on familiar matters in school, leisure, etc.

ADVANCED For students who have had more than 3 years of language instruction. Students will be able to use the language in a more complex way, using the past tense and future tense with ease.
